We invite you to participate in a new type of class that focuses on meditation and contemplation. We will be praying but instead of asking God for help, we will be listening for God to talk to us. We will be reading scripture but instead of trying to understand the Bible better, we will be listening for God to talk to us. We will be looking closely at the words of some of our hymns, with once again our mind focused on what God might be saying directly to us.
Contemplation and meditation is both an old and a new Christian practice. It dates back to the Desert Fathers in the 4th Century, St Augustine in the 5th Century, and St Francis in the 13th Century. But for the next five or six centuries, contemplation and meditation found themselves on the back burner of the Western Christian Church. But in the last century or so it has begun to reclaim its place in the church. Through the books and blogs of folks like Henri Nouwen, Richard Rhor, Thomas Merton, and many more, an increasing number of Christians are getting into contemplation and meditation.
We will start Monday evening October 4th at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m.
