In a 21-year US Air Force career, Susan held positions as commander, executive officer, operations officer, plans officer, and inspector in Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence Operations fields. Her primary career field was as an Air Weapons Controller in mobile radar units and served at the squadron, wing, and major command levels and in Department of Defense Joint Task Force operations in the United States, Europe, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean. She also served in special assignments including on the faculty of Squadron Officer School, and as plans and operations officer in several Counterdrug assignments with missions appointed and funded by Congress facilitating military support to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on the US Southwest border and in Mexico. During the first four years of her career, she served in the enlisted ranks as a chapel manager, drug and alcohol abuse counselor, and social actions instructor.
After retiring from military service, she began a career in business operations and administration with IT companies based in Atlanta, GA, and San Jose, CA. Susan and three of her IT colleagues co-founded a company to provide managed hosting and performance testing services for companies’ business-critical IT systems. After 14 years of successful growth and operations, they sold the company and Susan retired a second time.
Susan has a Master of Science degree in Behavioral Psychology; she completed an Executive Development Program course at the School of Management, Georgia Institute of Technology; and has completed other business programs and courses with Kennesaw State University, and leadership, contracting, and international business partner courses offered by universities and the military.
Susan has one adult son. She has been a member of Marietta FUMC since 1996 and currently serves as the Sisters in Christ Sunday School Leader, the Chair of Women’s Ministry, and is a member of the Church Council.
