Guatemala Mission Trip

Steve and Pam English attended Asbury College and both received separate calls to the missionary field. They graduated from college, married and moved to Guatemala within the year. That was over 20 years ago. They started by working in a dump ministering to those who lived there, then worked in a large orphanage, and then felt God's calling to start a small children's home for court appointed children, which they did around 14 years ago. Their facility is called LaSenda, which means The Way. Through the years their mission has changed, as the court system has changed, but today they are home to 18 children, all who have been there more than 10 years. They have provided a loving environment for these children to overcome their early obstacles in life and to become strong Christian young men and women. They also started a school in 2004 with 20 children, which has grown to 150 children. They are able to minister to these children and their families as well.

Marietta FUMC has been going to LaSenda on mission trips since 2003. Through the years, we have done numerous odd jobs including lots of painting, building sheds, digging a foundation, teaching children, training teachers, construction and general maintenance of their facility. However, the most important thing we have done through the years is to have forged a relationship with Pam and Steve and the wonderful children that live there. We have watched them grow up to be the fine young people that they are, and most importantly, I believe we have been a part of that process. And as a result, we have been changed as well.
