Wesley Woods and Mother's Day
Dr. Sam Matthews
May 4, 2009
Our church has a rich history of supporting the Mother's Day offering for Wesley Woods (last year our church gave more than any church in our district), our United Methodist ministry to aging adults, and we have another opportunity this week.
Wesley Woods serves older adults in their most vital needs- health, home, and community. Aging adults are among the most vulnerable of the Good Shepherd's flock. In ministering to these, our roots are planted deep in the Wesleyan tradition to "do all the good you can".
The largest provider of geriatric health services in Georgia, Wesley Woods serves almost 40,000 Georgia seniors each year. Wesley Woods is a part of the Emory Healthcare system, with nationally recognized care and treatment capabilities for aging-related conditions including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and late life depression.
Through nine facilities across Georgia, Wesley Woods provides safe and comfortable retirement living in an atmosphere that affirms God's love for all people in all circumstances. Many of the residents have outlived their savings and some have no family to help out. Three of every four residents need some kind of financial subsidy.
The generosity of North Georgia United Methodists is the foundation of Wesley Woods' charitable care. I invite you to join Bobbi and me in making a gift to this vital ministry. Our gift this year will be in memory of our mothers. Perhaps yours will be in honor or memory of your mother.
