Youth MissionsOur youth participate in many community, local, national and church projects that help us put our faith into "action."
![]() Senior High Spring Break Mission Trip |April 7-13, 2013 | Appalachia Service Project
Plans are underway for our 2013 Senior High Spring Break Mission Trip. We are working with Appalachia Service Project in Kentucky. Appalachia Service Project (ASP) provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation -- bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. But ASP is more than just a building program. Yes, Appalachia's poorest families urgently need your help, but they can help change your life, too. Because when you change the lives of others, they have a way of changing you.
Summer 2013 Youth Choir Mission Tour | May 31-June7, 2013 Youth choir ends their year with the Youth Choir Mission tour. Not only do they sing their way through tour, they also find many opportunities to work with the people in the communities through which they travel. They have worked in soup kitchens in California, shared meals with Under the Bridge ministries in Texas and continue to find many ways to share their faith and talents wherever they go. Youth Summer Mission Event | June 30- July 4, 2013 | Youth In Missions Camp Lake Junaluska
The summer has always been a time for youth camp and summer missions. Youth in Missions camp helps bring awareness of many local and national organizations that share the good news of Jesus in many different ways. We will also have Mission Fridays beginning this summer that will provide our youth opportunities to work and share their faith in the local community. Many opportunities for renewal, missions and fellowship will be available for our youth during the summer of 2013. Other Mission Projects Include: MISSIONS/ FAITH IN ACTION Our youth are not only involved in church service projects, they also reach out to the local community and worldwide. Great Day of Service Projects The youth participate in the Great Day of Service projects through the church. Whether it be a project at the MFUMC campus or working in a local community project, are youth are ready to help. Faith In Action Faith in Action events are varied but they encourage our youth to connect with their community and each other. We prepare and serve lunch at the MUST Loaves and Fishes kitchen, help set-up and break down at the Lil’ Lambs consignment sale, make Christmas ornaments and help decorate at the Enable homes, do yard work and clean up for older adults in our church, share a meal and Christmas carols with the Men’s and Women’s Extension, host a food drive for the Center for Family Resources for Thanksgiving and many more. Putting our “faith in action” helps youth realize how important sharing time and resources means to those they help. Souper Bowl of Caring (February 3, 2013) ![]() On Super Bowl Sunday the youth sponsor a “Souper” Bowl of Caring. The youth collect money at the end of each worship service in soup pots and donate to a cause they have decided on. They also help and prepare a Soup and Sandwich lunch to benefit local organizations that help feed those hungry in our community. Past donations have gone to The Extension, Nothing but Nets and Invisible Children. MUST LUNCHES (FRIDAYS)
Every Friday during the summer, the Youth have the option to volunteer their time and go to MUST Ministries with other members from the church to prepare and serve lunch. Please contact Forrest Cate for more information. Preparing Sack Lunches for MUST
The summer time is sometimes a challenge for kids who during the school year are able to eat lunch at school. We prepare hundreds of sack lunches one day a week during the summer for the children who are helped by MUST Ministries.
MUST BACK TO SCHOOL BAGS Every year before school starts the Youth help put together school back packs and give them out during the MUST Back to School Event. |
