Membership

Tradition
by Skip Harper
When Jeanine and I initially visited Marietta First Methodist, we experienced a feeling of coming home. Having been raised in our “town” Methodist church in South Carolina, we grew to love our church’s sense of formality and reverence woven with warm personal relationships and a genuine sense of belonging.

At first glance, we recognized the familiar traditional architecture, order of worship, inspiring hymns and welcoming message. When we looked a little deeper, we found loving nursery workers, devoted Sunday School teachers, energetic youth programs, opportunities to serve, the warmth of caring friend, and the love of Jesus Christ.

Marietta First Methodist felt like home and has truly become our family’s church home.

Through the ages Christians have recognized that we need one another: we need friends to encourage us, we need mentors to help us grow in faithfulness, and we need to opportunities to give of ourselves to others as we imitate the way of Christ.

When you join the church, together we enter a covenant, a relationship of growing together into a transformed life based upon God’s love and our love for one another.  We promise to surround you with “steadfast love, that you may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal”.

Yet this relationship is not one sided.  The church needs you.  You offer unique gifts, ways of thinking, and ways of loving.  Hence, you vow to uphold the church with your prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.

Have you been visiting MFUMC for a while now and you have decided to make it your church home? If you have any questions about Methodism, please feel free to call on one of our ministers to help you. You can join most any Sunday in the year, with few exceptions. We also have two Membership Sundays (Fall and Spring); these are days designated for those who are more comfortable joining in a larger group rather than by themselves.

You can join our church family through profession of faith (have never been baptized or baptized but never joined a church), transfer from another denomination or transfer from another Methodist church. You can either mark the sign in sheet that you wish to join and someone will contact you or you can call Tammy Cochran, Evangelism Coordinator at ext. 7807.
